Create a SEPA QR code

A SEPA QR code — also called an EPC or GiroCode — prefills a bank transfer in the payer's banking app: beneficiary, IBAN and amount.

The code follows the European standard EPC069-12, the same format German-speaking banks call a GiroCode. The banking app reads the beneficiary, IBAN, optional BIC, amount and reference and prepares the transfer, so the payer avoids retyping the IBAN.

The IBAN is validated with the modulo-97 check and the amount is normalised to two decimals. Because the payload is long, keep logos modest so the pattern stays scannable.

Frequently asked questions

Is SEPA QR the same as EPC or GiroCode?

Yes. SEPA QR code, EPC QR code and GiroCode all refer to the same EPC069-12 standard for prefilled bank transfers in the euro area.

Which apps read it?

Most banking apps in the SEPA area recognise the code during a transfer.

Is any money moved automatically?

No. The code only fills the form; the payer approves and sends it.
